The History Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Sebelas Maret University was first held on March 11, 1976. Based on Presidential Decree No. 10 of 1976. The History Study Program is a study program that originated from the History Education Study Program in previous institutions, namely from IKIP Surakarta, the Universitas Gabungan Surakarta (UGS), and finally became Sebelas Maret University until now.
One of the objectives of establishing a history study program is to develop humanities education, with the premise that history is one of the important parts to be studied. The academic orientation of the History Study Program is directed to develop education and research in the field of history. The educational process is packaged with the principles of professionalism so that it is expected to produce reliable and professional historians.
Educational materials are focused on the study of Indonesian history with the addition of regional historical studies such as Vorstenlanden Studies, European History, Asian History including Southeast Asia, Australian and Pacific History, and American History. Thus, the employment opportunities for graduates of the History Study Program are quite wide in various government and private institutions, at home and abroad, such as the Ministry of Education and Culture, the National Archives and Regional Archives, PT KAI (Persero), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Library and research institutions such as LIPI and social science study and research centers, can also enter the world of the press, culture can still provide direct benefits to the wider community.
